  • Using Structured Communication to Support Health Literacy in Daily Clinical Practice

Framing information exchange during patient care encounters is one way clinic staff can ensure understanding. Doing so supports immediate care goals but also enhances patient’s health literacy, long-term. Today’s discussion and interactive activity will address health literacy, the changing roles and expectations of health care providers in supporting health literacy. We will also take a deep dive into how structured communication techniques like Motivational Interviewing and the MI concept of “change talk” can support patients’ health and health literacy development.

    Speakers: Kristina Ramos-Callan, Suzanne Daub

Intended Audience: QI leads, care coordinators, and clinical providers
