Community Based Organizations (CBOs) are trusted members of the community and are essential partners in improving public health. By using their experience in resident engagement and mobilization, CBOs can serve as a bridge between residents and healthcare systems.
The Advancing Health Literacy Collaborative (AHL) is a partnership between DC Health and various District CBOs, establishing a network of community partners with the shared goal of improving health outcomes in the District.
Together, we are gathering and co-creating resources that support the essential role of CBOs to:
- Promote engagement in health-seeking and health-promoting norms, knowledge, attitudes and beliefs within their communities.
- Deliver health information in ways that are accessible, understandable, culturally informed, relevant, and beneficial to health and quality of life.
- Implement community-based, culturally and linguistically appropriate, equity-informed health literacy tools.
Please explore the health literacy tools below, and make sure to return for ongoing updates.
