La Clinica De Pueblo
La Clínica del Pueblo is a Federally Qualified Health Center serving the Latina/o/x community. Their health literacy efforts included enhancing health communication and addressing community misinformation by providing education and training to ensure communication is simple, culturally aligned and sensitive.
Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative (FSFSC)
FSFSC promotes health literacy through culturally aware methods, technology, and workshops for Black and African American residents in Wards 5, 7, and 8. Successes include increased health awareness, trust, and access to resources though challenges persist with cultural barriers and youth engagement.
HEAL-DC at American University
HEAL-DC, a health literacy initiative at American University, engages residents through interactive pop-up events at faith-based organizations. Leveraging a "Find-Know-Use" framework, participants learn to locate, understand, and apply health information effectively, aided by a dedicated team of AU students who research and lead engaging activities. Evaluations assessing health knowledge, patient-provider relationships, and access to resources demonstrate HEAL-DC's positive impact on health literacy and community well-being.
Central American Resource Center (CARECEN)
CARECEN's Health Literacy Project educated 11,272 people through 17 workshops, improving health knowledge and satisfaction. CARECEN’s reach includes Latina/o/x, non-US born and limited English proficiency individuals. Challenges discussed include misinformation and low resource use by community members.

InnerCity InnerCity Collaborative
Inner City Collaborative's "Empowerment Through Education" initiative actively engages with communities in Wards 7 and 8 through innovative health literacy strategies. Using a youth-led approach, their podcast @InnerCityCDC, disseminates crucial health information and fosters community dialogue. While tackling challenges like increasing viewership, the initiative prioritizes building connections and empowering individuals with knowledge to make informed health choices. By addressing health disparities and collaborating with community partners, Inner City CDC is fostering a healthier and more informed future for residents.
